Lien Khuong Airport will become the first international airport in the Central Highlands

According to the Thanh Nien newspaper, the Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee said that Lien Khuong airport becoming an international port will be an important boost for the tourism development of Lam Dong and the Central Highlands. This airport has a long history, built in 1933 and has gone through many stages of upgrading and management by the French and Americans. After being taken over by the Vietnamese People’s Army in 1975, the airport served mainly for business trips and migration to the new economic zone.

Since 1981, the airport has started to serve passenger transportation with domestic routes and has undergone many infrastructure upgrades, especially the renovation project in 2003 with a runway of 3,250m and the ability to serve 1.5-2 million passengers per year. However, in recent years, the airport has welcomed over 2.5 million passengers per year, exceeding its original design capacity.

Lien Khuong Airport has a unique architecture, simulating the shape of a wildflower, with a yellow roof bent into many wings. Lien Khuong Airport Terminal received the first prize of the National Architecture Award 2010.
