We will start our trip with a stop at the Pig market in Ba Ren, Quang Nam is a “unique” market in Vietnam when the whole market has only one item, pigs. On the way to My Lai, we will visit the Khuong My Towers which were constructed by the Champa kingdom and are generally believed to date from the first half of the ninth century and Nui Thanh Victory Monument which is associated with the historic battle between the American imperialists and the people of Quang Nam in 1965.
Visit My Lai museum, village, go around the village and meet the local villagers to understand deeply about the past war. My Lai village has sadly become famous because of the mass murder of civilians during the US – Vietnam War. On 16th March 1968, the soldiers of the Charlie Company – 1st Battalion, the 20th Infantry Regiment and the 11th Brigade of the American Division entered into My Lai Village looking for the Viet Cong soldiers.
Some American soldiers suspected that some of the enemies were hiding in the village, protected by the villagers. This led to a mass murder of over 300 unarmed civilians including women, children and elderly parents.
